The Crown & Anchor has stood on the corner of this street since 1897 — though the current owners, the Holt family, have run it since 1987. In that time it has survived two recessions, a pandemic and the rise of the gastropub, remaining stubbornly and proudly itself: a proper British local.
We brew our house ale with a local Fulham microbrewery, buy our beef from the same Herefordshire farm we've used for twenty years and bake our pie pastry every morning. The Sunday roast has been on the menu without interruption since the day the Holts took over.
"Been coming to the Crown for 15 years. The beef and ale pie is the best in London — the pastry is proper shortcrust, the filling is thick and rich and the mash underneath is buttery perfection."
"Ordered the Sunday roast for the family and it was absolutely brilliant. The beef was perfectly pink, the Yorkshire puddings were enormous and the gravy was genuinely homemade. A real treat."
"The ale selection at the Crown is exceptional. The rotating guest taps always have something interesting and the house ale from the Fulham microbrewery is outstanding. Always perfectly kept."
"The sticky toffee pudding here is legendary. Warm, dark, rich and the toffee sauce is genuinely made with butter. Topped with proper clotted cream ice cream. The best version of the dish I've eaten."
